Verna grew up in Texas, but moved to Fresno two years ago after graduating from University of Nevada, Las Vegas with a degree in international business. Her desire to pursue her passion for biblical social justice led her to become a Pink House student. During those 11 months, she worked closely with Lowell Community Development Corporation and learned about habitability and affordable housing.
She brings over five years of customer service experience and four years of student organizational leadership to her current role, which entails volunteer engagement. She enjoys connecting with others and hopes each volunteer feels like a valued member of the Habitat family. Verna strives for volunteers to have a positive experience whether they’re a first-time or consistent volunteer.
As an immigrant from the Philippines, she witnessed first-hand the effects of poverty and inequality. Verna feels honored to be working for Habitat, which has both holistic and practical solutions to social issues. She looks forward to the hands-on experience she will gain during her term as she prepares for graduate studies in international development.
In her free time, Verna enjoys outdoor recreational activities including hiking, climbing, and camping. She also loves to travel, visit coffee shops, practice photography, dance to live music, and meet new people!
