sharing the love

The early seeds of Habitat were sown in the 1940s when Clarence Jordan sought to create an interracial farm in Americus, Georgia. His goal was to emulate the early Christian church cited in Acts chapter 2. Habitat for Humanity germinated from these seeds in 1976.

Nearly 40 years later, we still aim to keep God at the center of our work. Our first mission principal is to “Demonstrate the Love of Jesus Christ” to any and everyone irrespective of any social identifiers.

In response to the prophet Micah’s call in Micah 6:8, Habitat for Humanity desires to give tangible expression to the love and mercy of God by eliminating poverty housing. Habitat’s ministry is based on the conviction that to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, we must love and care for one another.

Our love must not be words only—it must be true love, which shows itself in action. Habitat provides an opportunity for people to put their faith and love into action. We bring together diverse groups of people to make affordable housing and better communities a reality for everyone.
